You have to love arepas, those delicious South American treats made of cornbread and stuffed with anything you can imagine. You’d think that’s what I would order in a place called Arepa & Co, located in the Haggerston Riviera (where I’ve also tried this and this). But upon looking at the menu, there’s something bigger. A cachapa. And I always go for bigger.
They have their differences, but mostly it’s about size. The cachapa is bigger, so no eating with your hands. Unless you have huge hands. In which case, good for you. You are biologically designed towards cachapa consumption. Since my hands are normal in size, a good fork and knife will do.
You select the filling to go with it, in my case, Cachapa Mariana, which comes with chicken, avocado, cheddar and plantains. A whimsical mix by itself, you top it off with a magical red sauce which I’m sure is made out of unicorn shavings, and you’ve got a Venezuelan treat unlike any other.
Well, it’s quite like an arepa. But bigger. Since arepas are great, and this is bigger, well… you do the math.
Slimy? Holds its ingredients surprisingly well. Until you smother it with that magic sauce. Then it’s every man for himself
Satisfying? What’s not to love? More cornbread, more food, more fun!
